Momma, I’m Going Fast

The Fast Company Innovation Festival is described as an expo for thousands of makers and innovators from across the globe—exceptional leaders and doers shaping the future—for five days of inspired conversation, purposeful networking, and meaningful takeaways according to them. Speakers from every platform come to discuss the next step in their respective fields, be it business, athletics, design, science, etc. I created a poster series advertising this event, specifically for three speakers who share a passion for sports and athletics, the four people being Alysson Felix, Nick Cassidy, Mary Beth Laughton and Lauren Hobart. Some of them like Felix and Cassidy actually competed professionally and the others were CEO’s or heads of sporting departments. With this common thread, I got inspired specifically by the nature of sports like starting at point A and racing to point B, being fast, building momentum and going against odds. The three-dimensional nature of the type was inspired by motion, almost like traveling at light speed to the finish line. Stacking the type was in reference to first, second and third place in competitions. I was also inspired by the goal of the festival; to discuss ideas for the future. In thinking of the future I can’t help but look to the past in order to fully appreciate progress. So, the color and type choices were picked to create a retro vibe.
