You’re Only As Good As The Bagel You Eat is a paper sample booklet for Mohawk Paper Company in order for designers to buy their paper. The design of the spreads was inspired by New York delicatessens, bagel shops and their black and white tiled floors, and the crinkly wrapping paper used on sandwiches and bagels.

The concept behind the booklet is all about diversity. Just like how Mohawk has hundreds of papers to choose from, each with their own distinct qualites, so do people. Everything made under the sun can fall into some kind of category and can attract a unique audience. This can be seen with food, music, actors, art movements, politics, and even bagels. Bagels are not just an amazing breakfast / lunch / brunch food, but they are also a great indicator for personality types. There are so many delcious bagels to choose from when you go to the store, like plain, salt, poppy, everything, and so on. By paying attention to who is buying what at the local bagel shop, we can begin to determine what kind of a person they are. Observing their bagel preference could reveal if they are a social butterfly, or a shut in. And it also can show which bagel eaters are friends and which bagel eaters are enemies. For instance, someone who’s eating pumpernickel definitely won’ t be hanging out with someone who exclusively eats plain. This is ultimately a very handy skill to have, especially if you live in New York...or New Jersey. Using the paper sample personality guide can allow people to self analyze and see what kind of a person they are. It also encourages people to better understand each other and put aside their differences, because at the end of the day, the bagels and their buyers all end up in the same shop.
