A Taylor Swift Inspired Three-Part Product Line You Never Knew You Needed.

Tears, Beers, and Candles is a brand built off of the lyrics, vibe and experience that is Taylor Allison Swift. Swifts’ songs are miniature stories that unfold melodically, therefore the graphics had to represent that. The design of the packaging pulls visual cues from folk art and traditional-American tattoos through a more feminine lens. Being that Taylor Swift’s recent albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” have a “witchy” and “indie” energy, the visual language reflects a similar eclectic mix of styles. The colors chosen were largely inspired by her connection to the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the palate from her latest album “Midnights” that can be described as a melancholy 70’s fever dream, with a lot of modern synths.

Tears, Beers, and Candles is an experiential product line that involves the five senses; sight, smell, taste, touch and sound in order to immerse yourself in your feelings, and match the energy that her music gives off, as well as the vibes you get from drinking and smelling candles. Listening to Taylor Swift is a truly an emotional experience that often times makes you feel like you are the person in the song. This idea of being the main character of a story is a driving force behind the brand. In this story you are a brooding sad girl who’s tired from the tribulations of life, and just needs a moment to breathe and think before going on with a cloudy head and broken heart. It is a chance to stop and sit with yourself, light a candle, eat, drink and feel things.

The song “Closure” from Taylor Swift’s 8th studio Album Evermore, inspires the story seen on the matchboxes. The song addresses the end of a relationship and how emotionally distressing it can be. Often times people sweep things under the rug, turn a blind eye, and move on, but never really acknowledge what happens or how they feel. TBC is an opportunity to take time out of your day to actually think about your life and your own story, before you move on to write it more. People can purge their feelings rather than holding them in and really becoming the proverbial “main character”.
