Make it stand out.

The design of the packaging was inspired by the highly ornamented royal palaces, decor, family crests and fashion of the British Monarchy.

The concept behind Drama Queen Dreidel goes as such: Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary of Scotts, Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth of Windsor are all crazy. The British Monarchy (especially their queens) have a rich and complex history to say the least, given that their personal lives were an arena for the public to scrutinize. We know so much about these women who once held immense power. We know who they loved, and who they hated; who they waged wars against and who they met in secret. We know the great wealth they possessed and their extravagant lifestyles. And we know that even though they had the world at their feet, greed, vanity, jealousy and ego- to name a few- ruined them. It goes back to the old saying, “money can’t buy happiness”, which rings true for these royals. Drama Queen Dreidels is inspired by the lavish lives of these Queens who spun out of control. Dreidel is a game in which players can struggle to compete for the most money (or whatever is put in the prize pot) like the Queens did, just in a much smaller and simpler scale. The dreidel has four sides, so when it stops spinning, it can either land on Shin (put one in the pot), Nun (do nothing), Hay (take half of the pot), or Gimmel (take everything in the pot). Players can feel the nerves as the dreidel spins out of control almost like how Queen Elizabeth I must have felt when she had to paint her face with lead to cover up smallpox scars. Each product is a hexagon, and can fit together like a beehive, but in this case each player is a Queen.

Every space is covered with as much detail as possible in order to replicate what a Queen would expect to see. The color palette is subtle and desaturated, as to appear vintage, mostly using pastels which was common for royalty. The materials used were matte paper, dreidels, cardstock, vinyl sticker, foamboard (for the inside bottom) and vintage looking paper (for the inside as well).
